Target Information
VPS13D (Vacuolar Protein Sorting 13D) is a protein integral to the biological functions of mammalian cells, playing a crucial role in lipid transport and membrane linkage among various organelles. As a member of the VPS13 family, it is the only protein in mammals proven essential for cell and organismal survival. VPS13D interacts with the GTPase Miro to connect the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) with mitochondria and peroxisomes, facilitating lipid transmembrane transport. Although the complete absence of VPS13D in mice results in embryonic lethality, its role in adult mice remains unclear. However, studies suggest that VPS13D may be involved in the dynamic regulation and functional maintenance of mitochondria in mouse neurons.
