Target Information
The Uqcrfs1 gene in mice is involved in numerous functions, primarily associated with mitochondrial function and energy metabolism. Its absence results in reduced activity of mitochondrial complex III, impacting the electron transport chain's performance. This disruption causes a collapse in mitochondrial membrane potential and a rise in reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, thereby undermining the cell's energy metabolism and overall health. Additionally, the absence of Uqcrfs1 affects the stability of mitochondrial complexes I and IV, leading to their degradation. Uqcrfs1 is also essential in immune cells, particularly influencing the development and function of T cells and natural killer cells (iNKT). In a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD), a mild deficiency of the Uqcrfs1 gene was observed to diminish the formation of amyloid β plaques.
