Target Information
Tyrosinase is a copper-containing oxidase essential for forming pigments such as melanins and other polyphenolic compounds. It catalyzes the initial and rate-limiting step in the reaction cascade that produces melanin from tyrosine. As a critical enzyme in melanin synthesis, tyrosinase converts tyrosine into 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA), which is then oxidized to DOPA quinone and ultimately forms melanin. This process primarily determines the color of mouse skin and hair. Studies indicate that tyrosinase activity is highly expressed in mouse skin and hair follicles, particularly within melanocytes.
