Target Information
Tubulin Polymerization Promoting Protein (TPPP) is a regulator of microtubule dynamics, playing a crucial role in myelination by promoting the elongation of the myelin sheath. It acts as a microtubule nucleation factor in oligodendrocytes, localizing specifically to the postsynaptic Golgi apparatus region, also known as the Golgi outpost, to promote microtubule nucleation-an essential step for the elongation of the myelin sheath. In mice, its primary function involves promoting the assembly and stabilization of microtubules and regulating their dynamics. Tubulin polymerization is fundamental for intracellular transport and cell division. For instance, tau protein, a microtubule-associated protein (MAP), enhances microtubule polymerization and stabilizes their structure, thereby playing a significant role in neuronal differentiation.
