Ntrk2 is a receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a crucial role in the development and maturation of the central and peripheral nervous systems by regulating neuron survival, proliferation, migration, differentiation, and synapse formation and plasticity. It serves as a receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin-4 (NTF4). In mice, Ntrk2 has diverse functions, including promoting neuron differentiation, survival, and synaptic plasticity, as well as contributing to metabolism, immunity, and the response to neurodegenerative diseases. Ntrk2 is widely expressed in the central nervous system, particularly in the cortex, hippocampus, and hypothalamus. Research has shown that Ntrk2 mRNA exists in multiple splice variants in mouse neurons, with the long 3'UTR mRNA being more prevalent in the tip dendrites, and the short 3'UTR mRNA more common in the cell body.
