Target Information
Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel Subfamily V, Member 2 (TRPV2) is a calcium-permeable, non-selective cation channel characterized by outward rectification. It is partially regulated by factors such as IGF1, PDGF, and the neuropeptide head activator, and may play a role in transducing physical stimuli in mast cells. TRPV2 is activated by temperatures exceeding 52 degrees Celsius but is not responsive to vanilloids and acidic pH. In the adult mouse heart, TRPV2 is crucial for proper function. Studies have shown that the absence of TRPV2 can lead to severe cardiac issues, such as dissociation of intercalated discs, conduction abnormalities, impaired contractility, and increased mortality. TRPV2-deficient cardiomyocytes are unable to form normal intercalated discs, which disrupts the mechanical coupling between cardiomyocytes, affecting both contractile and diastolic functions of the myocardium.
