Target Information

The transforming growth factor beta-1 proprotein contains precursors to the latency-associated peptide (LAP) and transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-beta-1) chains, which form the regulatory and active subunits of TGF-beta-1, respectively. In mice, TGF-β1 plays a crucial and multifaceted role in processes such as immune regulation, tissue repair, fibrosis, tumor suppression, and embryonic development. A deficiency or abnormal expression of TGF-β1 can lead to various pathological conditions, including inflammatory and fibrotic diseases, as well as cancer. Mice lacking TGF-β1 exhibit an exaggerated inflammatory response, marked by an extensive infiltration of lymphocytes and macrophages into multiple organs, particularly the heart and lungs.
