Target Information

Trans-Golgi network integral membrane protein 2 (Tgoln2) is thought to play a role in regulating membrane traffic to and from the trans-Golgi network. In mice, Tgoln2 has various roles, including regulating T cell function, participating in the psychological stress response, influencing lipid metabolism, and potentially playing a role in viral infection and disease. Tgoln2 supports effector T cell function by stabilizing the actin skeleton at the immune synapse. Mice deficient in Tgoln2 produce significantly lower levels of IL-2 following T cell activation, highlighting its importance for normal T cell function. During psychological stress, Tgoln2 expression levels correlate with the coping abilities of mice. In the amygdala of stress-susceptible mice, Tgoln2 expression is significantly upregulated, a change linked to the targeting by microRNA-24-3p, suggesting that Tgoln2 is involved in the molecular regulatory network that governs stress responses.
