Target Information
Thyrotropin Releasing Hormone (TRH) serves as a regulator of TSH biosynthesis in the anterior pituitary gland and functions as a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator in the central and peripheral nervous systems. In mice, TRH not only regulates thyroid hormone secretion by directly acting on the pituitary gland, but also influences multiple physiological functions through a complex network of neurotransmitters and degradation mechanisms. It can enhance the synergistic effect of dopamine (dopa) and para-aminobenzoate (pargyline), thus affecting behavioral performance. This effect is observed in both hypophysectomized and normal mice, indicating that TRH's effect is independent of the pituitary gland's ability to secrete thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
