Target Information
Carboxypeptidase B2 (Thrombin Activatable Fibrinolysis Inhibitor) functions by cleaving C-terminal arginine or lysine residues from biologically active peptides like kinins and anaphylatoxins in circulation, thereby modulating their activities. It also downregulates fibrinolysis by removing C-terminal lysine residues from fibrin that has been partially degraded by plasmin. In mice, the role of TAFI (thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor) is primarily seen in its inhibition of the fibrinolytic system and its impact on inflammation and thrombosis. Although mice lacking TAFI do not display obvious phenotypic defects, suggesting a minor role in normal fibrinolysis, the loss or dysfunction of TAFI in certain disease models can lead to irregularities in the fibrinolytic system.
