Target Information
Taste receptor type 1 member 2 (Tas1r2) is a putative taste receptor that, along with TAS1R3, recognizes a wide range of natural and synthetic sweeteners. In mice, Tas1r2's functions extend beyond sweet taste perception to include roles in bone health, muscle mass, metabolic regulation, and inflammatory responses. As a critical receptor for sweet taste perception in mammals, Tas1r2 combines with Tas1r3 to form a heterodimeric sweet taste receptor responsible for detecting various sweeteners. Research indicates that Tas1r2 is expressed in the taste system of mice and is involved in transmitting sweet taste signals. Additionally, the loss of Tas1r2 function-such as through a knockout-leads to a marked reduction in mice's preference for sweet tastes.
