Target Information
Syntaxin-1A is critical for the calcium-dependent exocytosis and endocytosis of hormones and neurotransmitters. It is part of the SNARE (Soluble NSF Attachment Receptor) complex, consisting of SNAP25, STX1A, and VAMP2, which facilitates the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic plasma membrane. In mice, Syntaxin-1A plays a pivotal role in neurotransmitter secretion, synaptic plasticity, behavioral performance, insulin secretion, and cardiac function. The absence or dysfunction of Syntaxin-1A can adversely affect mice's behavior. For instance, Syntaxin-1A knockout mice display abnormal social interactions and fear conditioning behaviors. Additionally, Syntaxin-1A is linked to serotonin function, and its deficiency may result in atypical emotional behavior.
