Target Information

Synapsin-1 is a neuronal phosphoprotein that coats synaptic vesicles and binds to the cytoskeleton, serving as a regulator of synaptic vesicle trafficking. It plays a crucial role in controlling neurotransmitter release at the pre-synaptic terminal. In the mouse brain, the expression of Synapsin-1 is closely linked to cognitive deficits and the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, mice lacking Synapsin-1 display epilepsy-like behaviors and impairments in neuronal plasticity, indicating its vital role in maintaining normal neural function. In the CA3 region of the mouse hippocampus, synapsin-1 deficiency leads to reduced synaptic vesicle density and altered presynaptic structure, but does not affect long-term potentiation (LTP) function.
