Target Information
The succinate dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] iron-sulfur subunit, located in the mitochondria, is an iron-sulfur protein (IP) component of the succinate dehydrogenase complex, known as mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II. This subunit is crucial for transferring electrons from succinate to ubiquinone (coenzyme Q), playing a vital role in sustaining mitochondrial function. In aged mice, mitochondrial transplantation can significantly boost the expression of mitochondrial complex II proteins in the hippocampus, thereby enhancing mitochondrial function. A deficiency or decline in Sdhb functionality results in decreased activity of mitochondrial complex II, adversely affecting cellular energy metabolism and the oxidative phosphorylation process.
