Target Information
Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Protein 1 (SREBP-1) serves as a precursor to the transcription factor form, known as processed SREBP-1, which is embedded in the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum. When sterol concentrations are low, this precursor form is processed to release the transcription factor, which then translocates to the nucleus to activate the transcription of genes involved in cholesterol biosynthesis and lipid homeostasis. The expression and function of SREBP-1 vary across different tissues. For instance, in the liver, SREBP-1 primarily regulates the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol, whereas in adipose tissue, it is involved in the oxidation and storage of fatty acids.
