Target Information

In mice, somatostatin (SST) is involved in a wide range of systems and physiological processes, including immune regulation, inflammation control, insulin and glucagon secretion regulation, cognitive function, and intestinal barrier protection. SST offers protective effects in inflammatory processes particularly through its receptor subtype, SSTR4. The roles of SST in mice are broad and varied, encompassing immune regulation, inflammatory response, endocrine regulation, cognitive function, intestinal barrier protection, and tumor suppression. Research has shown that SST4 knockout mice (sst4−/−) experience more severe symptoms in various inflammatory models, such as acute foot swelling, mechanical pain, and delayed skin allergic reactions.
