Target Information
Sestrin-3 may act as an intracellular leucine sensor that negatively regulates the TORC1 signaling pathway and may also influence the insulin-receptor signaling pathway by activating TORC2. In mice, Sestrin-3 fulfills various roles, including alleviating oxidative stress, maintaining metabolic homeostasis, protecting neurons, regulating immune responses, and inhibiting tumorigenesis. As part of the Sestrin family, Sesn3 primarily sustains the antioxidant defense of cells by managing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and promoting mitochondrial autophagy. Research shows that Sesn3 can decrease ROS production by inhibiting the mTORC1 signaling pathway and enhance cellular energy metabolism and anti-aging effects by activating AMPK.
