Target Information

Semaphorin-3C interacts with plexin family members and is crucial for the regulation of developmental processes. It is essential for proper cardiovascular development during embryogenesis, acting as an attractant for growing axons and playing a significant role in axon growth and guidance. Sema3C is vital for the migration of cardiac neural crest cells (CNC) and the formation of the cardiac outflow tract (OFT). Research has demonstrated that Sema3C facilitates the migration and differentiation of CNC cells to the OFT by binding to NRP1, thereby ensuring the correct compartmentalization of the cardiac outflow tract. Mice lacking Sema3C exhibit defects in OFT development, including interrupted aortic arches and persistent pulmonary valves.
