Target Information

L-selectin is a calcium-dependent lectin that facilitates cell adhesion by binding to glycoproteins on neighboring cells. It enables lymphocytes to adhere to endothelial cells of high endothelial venules in peripheral lymph nodes. In mice, L-selectin is pivotal in inflammatory and immune responses, regulating leukocyte migration, adhesion, and signaling. As a cell surface adhesion molecule, L-selectin is widely expressed on most leukocytes and primarily mediates their rolling and migration along the vascular endothelium. Research has shown that L-selectin-deficient mice exhibit significant disruptions in leukocyte recruitment in inflammatory models. For instance, in a collagen-induced arthritis model, the migration of neutrophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes is markedly reduced in the absence of L-selectin.
