Target Information
Secretogranin-2 (SCG2) is a member of the granin protein family, crucial for the formation of secretory granules in the neuroendocrine system. Widely distributed within the secretory granules of both neurons and endocrine cells, SCG2 is instrumental in the packaging and sorting of peptide hormones and neurotransmitters. It also acts as a precursor for multiple peptide products, including the secretory neuropeptide secretoneurin. SCG2 plays a key role in maintaining normal neuroendocrine function by managing the biogenesis and operation of secretory granules. Furthermore, SCG2 is expressed in mouse hippocampal neurons and is co-activated by glutamate and dopamine via the Ca2+/MEK/ERK signaling pathway, highlighting its significant role in neuronal signal integration.
