Target Information
Soluble frizzled-related proteins (sFRPs) modulate Wnt signaling by directly interacting with Wnts, playing a crucial role in regulating cell growth and differentiation in specific cell types. SFRP5 may influence the polarity of photoreceptor cells and possibly other retinal cells. In mice, Sfrp5 exhibits significant metabolic regulatory, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects. It aids in improving obesity-related metabolic disorders and inflammatory responses by inhibiting the non-classical activation of the Wnt signaling pathway, and offers protection during cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury. In mice on a high-fat diet, decreased expression of Sfrp5 leads to reduced insulin sensitivity, worsened fatty liver, and increased macrophage infiltration.
