Target Information

Secreted frizzled-related sequence protein 4, a type of soluble frizzled-related protein (sFRP), acts as a modulator of Wnt signaling by directly interacting with Wnts. It plays a role in controlling cell growth and differentiation in specific cell types. Sfrp4 is crucial in the bone formation process, and its expression is tightly linked to osteoblast proliferation and bone formation. Research has shown that Sfrp4 decreases osteoblast proliferation and bone formation by inhibiting the Wnt signaling pathway. In obese mice, Sfrp4 expression in adipose tissue is significantly elevated, correlating with the levels of adiponectin secreted by adipocytes. Adiponectin is closely associated with insulin resistance and obesity. Furthermore, overexpression of Sfrp4 suppresses the Wnt signaling pathway, thereby impacting adipocyte function. These findings suggest that Sfrp4 may influence obesity and metabolic diseases by regulating adipose tissue function.
