Target Information
Scavenger receptor class B member 1 (SCARB1) serves as a receptor for various ligands, including phospholipids, cholesterol esters, lipoproteins, phosphatidylserine, and apoptotic cells. Both isoform 1 and isoform 2 function as receptors for HDL, facilitating the selective uptake of cholesteryl ether and HDL-dependent cholesterol efflux. In mice, a deficiency in SCARB1 results in a significant increase in plasma HDL levels, coupled with reduced HDL uptake by the liver, thereby impacting reverse cholesterol transport. Additionally, the loss of SCARB1 function is associated with alterations in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels.
