Target Information

Protein S100-A9 is a calcium- and zinc-binding protein that plays a critical role in regulating inflammatory processes and the immune response. It can induce neutrophil chemotaxis and adhesion, and enhance the bactericidal activity of neutrophils by promoting phagocytosis through the activation of SYK, PI3K/AKT, and ERK1/2 pathways. Additionally, it can trigger neutrophil degranulation via a MAPK-dependent mechanism. S100-A9 is part of the S100 protein family and is broadly expressed in various cell types, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes. During both acute and chronic inflammation, S100-A9 expression is significantly elevated, influencing the inflammatory response by promoting the activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway. In mouse models, S100-A9 has been shown to support neutrophil migration and adhesion, thereby enhancing the immune response at sites of inflammation.
