Target Information
DNA-binding protein REPIN1 is a sequence-specific double-stranded DNA-binding protein that targets ATT-rich and T-rich DNA sequences, facilitating DNA bending. It is thought to regulate the expression of genes involved in cellular fatty acid import, such as SCARB1/CD36, as well as genes associated with lipid droplet formation. In mice, REPIN1 plays a significant role in regulating lipid metabolism, alleviating liver inflammation and damage, reducing tumor incidence, and improving insulin sensitivity. Studies on mice with hepatocyte-specific knockout of Repin1 (LRep1−/−) revealed reduced lipid accumulation in the liver, including decreased hepatic fat deposition and lower triglyceride levels. Additionally, Repin1-deficient mice exhibited a marked reduction in chronic inflammation and liver damage, as evidenced by decreased plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH) activities, underscoring its protective role in liver health.
