Mouse Proteoglycan 4 (PRG4) ELISA Kit-Sandwich

Proteoglycan 4 is essential for boundary lubrication in articulating joints. It helps prevent protein deposition on cartilage from synovial fluid by regulating adhesion-dependent synovial growth and inhibiting the adhesion of synovial cells to the cartilage surface. PRG4 plays a crucial role in bone development, particularly in young mice, where its absence results in abnormal bone development, such as decreased height of the proliferative zone of the epiphyseal growth plate and reduced trabecular and cortical bone. Additionally, PRG4 indirectly supports bone homeostasis and joint function by enhancing the osteogenic effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH). In adult mice, a lack of PRG4 results in decreased levels of fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2) in the bone marrow, liver, and serum. These changes are linked to diminished trabecular and cortical bone, though they do not significantly affect the remodeling of mature bones.
