Target Information
Protein kinase C epsilon type (PKCε) is a calcium-independent, phospholipid- and diacylglycerol (DAG)-dependent serine/threonine-protein kinase that plays critical roles in regulating various cellular processes involving cytoskeletal proteins. These processes include cell adhesion, motility, migration, and the cell cycle. PKCε also contributes to neuron growth, ion channel regulation, immune responses, cancer cell invasion, and the regulation of apoptosis. In mice, PKCε is involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes, such as cardiac protection, tumor development, skin cancer formation, and behavioral responses. Overexpression of PKCε in the mouse epidermis can significantly reduce the number of papillomas. Behaviorally, PKCε-deficient mice exhibit increased sensitivity to alcohol and morphine, with a notable reduction in craving and dependence on alcohol.
