Target Information
The endothelial protein C receptor (EPCR) binds to activated protein C, enhancing its activation by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex and playing a crucial role in the protein C pathway that governs blood coagulation. In mice, EPCR functions encompass coagulation, anti-inflammation, vascular barrier protection, and disease defense. Through its interactions with molecules such as protein C, activated protein C (APC), and PAR1, EPCR regulates various biological activities of endothelial cells. It contributes to thrombosis inhibition by promoting protein C activation. For example, the absence of EPCR in mice leads to significant fibrin deposition at the maternal-placental interface, resulting in placental dysfunction and embryonic lethality.
