Target Information
Vitamin K-dependent protein C is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease that regulates blood coagulation by inactivating factors Va and VIIIa, requiring calcium ions and phospholipids to function. It also protects endothelial cell barrier function. In mice, the primary role of vitamin K-dependent protein C is its anticoagulant effect, achieved by degrading factor Va and factor VIIIa to inhibit blood coagulation. Additionally, its function is influenced by the metabolic state and molecular structure of vitamin K. These properties make protein C a crucial component in maintaining blood coagulation balance.
