Target Information

Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) serves multiple biological functions in mice, including neuroprotection, sleep regulation, inflammation, and immune modulation. By activating the DP1 receptor, PGD2 can protect the mouse brain from hypoxic-ischemic injury (HIE). Research has demonstrated that PGD2 significantly reduces the area of cerebral infarction following hypoxic brain injury and provides neuroprotection by inhibiting neuronal apoptosis and reducing damage to endothelial cells. PGD2 is crucial for regulating sleep; it can promote sleep and regulate sleep cycles through the activation of specific receptors like DP1 and CRTH2. In mice, PGD2 influences sleep quality by inducing the chemotaxis of eosinophils and mast cells via CRTH2 receptor activation. In inflammatory responses, PGD2 plays a dual role by engaging both DP1 and CRTH2 receptors.
