Target Information
Platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRα) is a tyrosine-protein kinase that functions as a cell-surface receptor for PDGFA, PDGFB, and PDGFC. It plays a crucial role in regulating embryonic development, cell proliferation, survival, and chemotaxis. Depending on the context, PDGFRα can either promote or inhibit cell proliferation and migration. It is vital for the differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells and is necessary for normal skeletal development and cephalic closure during embryogenesis. PDGFRα is also pivotal in connective tissue remodeling. Research indicates that mice lacking PDGFRα (such as α-KO mice) display significant connective tissue abnormalities, including reduced collagen deposition, neovascularization, and decreased numbers of fibroblasts and macrophages, which align with changes in vascular and endothelial-related parameters.
