Target Information

Urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) specifically cleaves the zymogen plasminogen to generate the active enzyme plasmin. In mice, uPA is involved in a range of physiological and pathological processes, including fibrinolysis, vascular remodeling, tumor metastasis, skeletal muscle regeneration, and wound healing. Mice lacking uPA exhibit significant regeneration defects following muscle injury, but supplementing with uPA can ameliorate these defects. Additionally, uPA plays a role in various other physiological functions, such as the degradation of follicle walls, renal tubular sodium reabsorption, and endotoxin-induced fibrin deposition.
