Target Information
Phosphoglycerate mutase 1 (PGAM1) facilitates the interconversion of 2-phosphoglycerate and 3-phosphoglycerate-an essential step in glycolysis-using 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate. It also catalyzes the transformation between (2R)-2,3-bisphosphoglycerate and (2R)-3-phosphoglyceroyl phosphate. As a key enzyme in the glycolysis pathway, PGAM1 plays a vital role in converting phosphoglycerate, making it an important component of cellular energy metabolism. In mice, PGAM1 is expressed across various tissues, including the brain, liver, heart, and muscles. Its absence results in a significant downregulation of genes related to glycolysis, thereby impacting energy metabolism. Additionally, PGAM1 exhibits distinct effects in brown adipose tissue (BAT) compared to white adipose tissue (WAT). PGAM1 is overexpressed in several cancers, such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), glioblastoma (GBM), and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).
