Target Information
2',5'-phosphodiesterase 12 is an enzyme that breaks the 2',5'-phosphodiester bonds that link adenosines in 5'-triphosphorylated oligoadenylates, known as 2-5A, which modulate the 2-5A system. It converts triphosphorylated 2-5A into AMP and ATP and also cleaves 3',5'-phosphodiester bonds in oligoadenylates. In mice, the primary functions of Pde12 include degrading the poly(A) tail of mitochondrial mRNA, thereby influencing mitochondrial transcription and translation; acting within the 2-5A system to negatively regulate interferon-induced antiviral responses; and potentially playing a role in the maturation of mitochondrial tRNA and other metabolic processes.
