Target Information

Inactive protein-arginine deiminase type-6 (PADI6) is crucial for early embryonic development. In oocytes, it is released during the cortical reaction and plays a role in preimplantation cleavage, potentially contributing to cytoskeletal reorganization in both the egg and early embryo. PADI6 is primarily expressed in oocytes, mature sperm, and early embryos, and it is localized within the cytoplasmic matrix of oocytes. Though PADI6 is vital for early embryonic development in both mice and humans, its precise function remains unclear. Compared to other members of the protein-arginine deiminase family, PADI6 is less conserved, and its catalytic function is currently unknown.
