Target Information
Paxillin is a cytoskeletal protein crucial for linking actin to the membrane at focal adhesion sites where cells adhere to the extracellular matrix. It also recruits proteins like TRIM15 to these sites. Paxillin is essential for mouse embryonic development. Research indicates that knocking out the paxillin gene results in significant developmental abnormalities in mice, particularly affecting mesodermal derivatives like the heart and bones. Paxillin-deficient mice show phenotypes similar to those with fibronectin receptor (FBR) deficiency, including impaired cell migration, abnormal adhesion, and reduced phosphorylation levels of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) during early development.
