Target Information
Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHLH) is a neuroendocrine peptide that plays a vital role in regulating cellular and organ growth, development, migration, differentiation, and survival, as well as epithelial calcium ion transport. It is pivotal in endochondral bone development and epithelial-mesenchymal interactions during the formation of mammary glands and teeth. PTHLH is crucial for mouse embryonic development, with research showing its expression in mouse oocytes and early embryos. The highest expression occurs in the MII (secondary oocyte) stage, while it is lowest at the blastocyst stage. Overexpression of PTHLH can lead to abnormal bone development in mice, such as osteomalacia, bone shortening, and decreased bone density. Additionally, PTHLH influences the differentiation and proliferation of osteoblasts by interacting with receptors such as PTH1R on the osteoblast surface.
