Target Information
The function of the oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor (OxLDL receptor) in mice primarily involves the recognition, uptake, and metabolism of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL), as well as influencing pathological processes like inflammation and atherosclerosis. There exists a receptor in mouse macrophages and peritoneal cells that specifically identifies oxLDL, distinct from the receptor that recognizes acetylated low-density lipoprotein (AcLDL) and possesses higher specificity. Research indicates that this receptor can bind to oxLDL but exhibits a lower affinity for AcLDL. Furthermore, components of the lipid portion of oxLDL, such as phosphatidylserine and lipid peroxide, are considered crucial for its recognition. In mouse macrophages, the oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor plays a role in promoting the uptake and degradation of oxLDL, thereby impacting the inflammatory response and the progression of atherosclerosis.
