Target Information

Nuclear factor 1 B-type (Nfib) is a transcriptional activator of GFAP and is essential for proper brain development. In mice, Nfib plays a crucial role in brain development. Research has shown that a deficiency in Nfib can result in abnormal development of midline glial cells, leading to issues such as the loss of the pontine base and malformation of the dentate gyrus. Nfib is also critical for the development of the forebrain, cerebellum, and spinal cord, with its deficiency causing delayed differentiation of progenitor cells in these areas. During cortical development, a lack of Nfib inhibits the maturation of GFAP+ glial cells, leading to normal neuronal development but impaired glial cell development. Additionally, Nfib forms a co-regulatory network with Tcf4 to promote the differentiation of neural stem cells.
