Target Information

Neurokinin A, along with substance P and neurokinin B, can stimulate IL-1-like activity in P388D1 cells by binding to the NK2 receptor. This indicates that NKA may play a significant role in inflammatory and immune responses, particularly in inflammatory respiratory diseases, and its expression levels can be influenced by steroids. In mice, neurokinin A is closely associated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Research has shown that NKA is involved in regulating reproductive function by influencing the release of gonadal hormones. For instance, NKA may regulate gonadotropin secretion indirectly by interacting with specific neurons, such as arcuate neurons. Additionally, the role of NKA in pubertal development is modulated by the estrogen signaling pathway, highlighting its importance in the reproductive endocrine system.
