Target Information
Homeobox protein NANOG is a transcription regulator essential for the proliferation and self-renewal of the inner cell mass and embryonic stem (ES) cells. Nanog is predominantly expressed in undifferentiated mouse embryonic stem cells and is present during blastocyst formation. Its expression progressively declines after blastocyst implantation, aligning with the loss of pluripotency. NANOG sustains the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells by working synergistically with other transcription factors such as Oct4 and Sox2 to suppress differentiation gene activation and promote undifferentiation genes.
