Target Information
In mouse heart disease models, NT-proBNP serves as a highly sensitive and predictive biomarker for cardiac dysfunction. Its elevation is often linked to pathological processes like myocardial injury, ventricular remodeling, and heart failure, making it an essential marker for assessing cardiac function and disease progression. In studies with mice infected with Trypanosoma brucei (African trypanosomiasis), NT-proBNP levels in the plasma of infected mice rose significantly at 33 days post-infection, while no significant changes were observed in uninfected control mice. This indicates that NT-proBNP can be used to evaluate cardiac dysfunction in mice. Increased NT-proBNP levels are typically associated with cardiac issues such as reduced left ventricular systolic function. In mouse models, elevated NT-proBNP may reflect structural and functional cardiac changes, including myocardial hypertrophy and ventricular dilatation.
