Target Information

Alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminidase is an enzyme that removes terminal alpha-N-acetylgalactosamine residues from glycolipids and glycopeptides, essential for the breakdown of glycolipids. This enzyme has multiple roles in mice and other organisms, including regulating immune responses, participating in metabolic processes, and potentially influencing tumor immunity. As a crucial hydrolase in lysosomes, α-NAG is responsible for degrading specific sugar chains in glycoproteins and glycolipids. It can specifically hydrolyze the O-linked disaccharide Galβ1,3-GalNAc, releasing it from glycoproteins. Deficiencies in this enzyme can lead to lysosomal dysfunction and result in disease.
