Target Information
Myosins are actin-based motor proteins with ATPase activity, crucial for muscle contraction. In mice, Myosin-2 serves multiple roles, including facilitating cell movement, regulating the cytoskeleton dynamically, transmitting mechanical forces, aiding signal transduction, and enabling contraction in specific tissues. In skeletal muscle, Myosin-2 is the primary contractile protein responsible for active muscle contraction. In smooth muscle, it plays a role in maintaining vascular tone and facilitating involuntary organ movements. Moreover, in endothelial cells, Myosin-2 is involved in compensatory endocytosis by managing cytoskeletal compression and contraction. By interacting with F-actin, Myosin-2 promotes cell membrane movement and cytoskeletal reorganization, thus preserving the balance of contact forces between cells.
