Target Information

Myelin basic protein (MBP) serves multiple functions in the mouse central nervous system, including myelin formation and maintenance, signal transduction, immune regulation, and lipid metabolism. As a major structural component of myelin, MBP constitutes over 80% of its dry weight and aids in forming a compact myelin structure by interacting with lipids in the myelin membrane. Its immunogenic nature makes MBP a key antigen in the experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE) model. Beyond physically supporting the myelin membrane, MBP interacts with cytoskeletal proteins via its SH3 domain, facilitating signal transmission from the cell membrane to the cell interior. This ability positions MBP as a multifunctional hub protein, capable of participating in various intracellular signaling pathways.
