Mouse Mucin 4 (MUC4) ELISA Kit-Sandwich

Mucin-4 is a membrane-bound mucin belonging to a family of highly glycosylated proteins that form the primary component of mucus, the slippery and viscous secretion that coats epithelial surfaces. These glycoproteins are essential for protecting the epithelium and are involved in epithelial renewal and differentiation. Mucin-4 influences cellular behavior by exerting anti-adhesive effects on interactions between cells and between cells and the extracellular matrix, and by acting as an intramembrane ligand for ERBB2. In mice, MUC4 has demonstrated protective effects against certain viral infections. For instance, in a mouse model of SARS-CoV-2 infection, MUC4 expression was able to lessen virus-induced weight loss and disease progression, although it did not significantly affect viral load. This indicates that MUC4 may contribute by modulating the host's immune response or enhancing mucus barrier function.
