Target Information
C-C motif chemokine 12 (CCL12) is a chemotactic agent that attracts eosinophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes, but not neutrophils. It is a highly active monocyte chemokine that operates through the CCR2 receptor. CCL12 is implicated in allergic inflammation and the body's defense against pathogens, potentially playing a crucial role in the initial stages of allergic lung inflammation. In mice, CCL12 is key in immune cell migration and the inflammatory response. In an Alzheimer's disease model, CCL12 expression was notably elevated, particularly in the hippocampus and cerebellum, indicating its involvement in neuroinflammatory processes related to Alzheimer's disease. In p26-deficient mice, reduced CCL12 expression hindered osteoprogenitor cell differentiation, impacting bone development, suggesting its importance in bone health. Additionally, in the tumor microenvironment, CCL12 interacts with the CXCR4 receptor to promote the recruitment and infiltration of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), influencing tumor immune evasion and treatment resistance.
