Target Information
Methylmalonic acid (MMA) is a chemical compound belonging to the group of dicarboxylic acids. It is composed of the fundamental structure of malonic acid with an added methyl group. The salts formed from methylmalonic acid are known as methylmalonates. The functions of MMA in mice are mainly reflected in its role as a biomarker of vitamin B12 deficiency, its effects on the nervous system and energy metabolism, and its interactions with other metabolic pathways. Research has demonstrated that a humanized partial rescue mouse model of methylmalonic aciduria can facilitate the assessment of long-term pathophysiological effects associated with elevated levels of methylmalonic acid.
