Mouse Methyl CpG Binding Protein 2 (MECP2) ELISA Kit-Sandwich

Methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 is a chromosomal protein that binds specifically to methylated DNA, recognizing individual methyl-CpG pairs without being affected by the surrounding sequences. It mediates transcriptional repression by interacting with histone deacetylase and the corepressor SIN3. MeCP2 binds both 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC)-containing DNA, showing a preference for 5-methylcytosine (5mC). In mice, MeCP2 plays a role in various neurobiological processes, including regulation of gene expression, synaptic plasticity, neuronal activity balance, and pathology in disease models. Deficiency of MeCP2 in mice leads to phenotypes resembling Rett Syndrome (RTT), characterized by motor dysfunction, cognitive deficits, and abnormalities in neuronal structure and synaptic plasticity.
