Target Information
Matrix metalloproteinase-19 (MMP-19) is an endopeptidase that degrades various components of the extracellular matrix, including aggrecan and cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP), during development, hemostasis, and pathological conditions such as arthritic diseases. It may also contribute to neovascularization or angiogenesis. In mice, MMP-19 has several critical functions, including regulating immune responses, inhibiting tumor growth and angiogenesis, promoting tissue remodeling, and participating in inflammation and disease processes. Studies have demonstrated that MMP-19-deficient mice exhibit impaired T cell-mediated immune responses in contact hypersensitivity (CHS), which is evident from reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, decreased keratinocyte proliferation, and lower numbers of CD8+ T cells.
